At the wine's heart it was a sangria color but ended more chestnut.

The Aroma:
Immediately after pouring I could already smell the wine. It has a very sweet smell which closely resembles strawberries.

The Taste:
The wine had a sweet smokey flavor and was tartly firm. Its body was light and slightly unbalanced (on the side of firmness).

The Drink:
Since I am a big fan of food and drink with a bite of zip this wine from Tuscany was right up my alley. It drank smooth and ended with a zip.

The Overall:

- "Let's get back to the Mar Mar and buy another bottle or 5."
- "How about we indulge since its on the Wine List."
- "Should we finish the rest of the bottle today?........Maybe tomorrow."
- "One man's trash is another's man's treasure."

Betsy's Thoughts:
'A full smokey wine that deserves hours of slow sipping by a good book and a fire.'

My Hometown Team

Growing up outside of Syracuse, NY it's nearly impossible to skirt Orange fever. From my experience the only cure for this sickness is season tickets. Fortunately my mother and brother both attended the University and for a few years and we purchased 2 sets of tickets. The way it worked was my dad attended every game and my brother and I rotated.

There I was an elementary school kid up in the stands with all the slightly influenced college students. It wasn't drastic at first but as time progress it became more and more uncomely. Last week we decided it was time to take her to the Vet and packing her into her crate I drove off.

The Vet is a very stressful place for an animal. First it's full of other smells and then you are brought into a room and poked, prodded and weighed. Scout (playfully named after Jean Louise in 'To Kill a Mockingbird') is not a fan, but we were prepared for the worst.

Finally, the diagnosis was in and to my great surprise our cat didn't have a fungus or skin disorder. She was in fact licking out her own fur. WHAT!??!!! I thought....Why?

As it turns out our cat, is depressed. And if she doesn't start getting better in the next week she's be prescribed Prozac (or some form of it).....I kid you not. I honestly am ashamed to admit I'm toying with the thought of a drugged pet. Wish me luck.

A Disgruntled Reader

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RdWjwpPN3XI/AAAAAAAAAEM/bj0TbflkV_M/s200/typhoon2004perspective.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5032108214755122546" />Unfortunately not all of us have the tact to voice our frustration in a positive manor. I've realized I contain no comparative knowledge regarding wine. Hence, I apologize for the slight vagueness which you might observe. I also have decided not to use a formal rating system but four brief statements summing up my impressions. Now onto the wine...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RdLz1ZPN3WI/AAAAAAAAAEA/chvfZW4qpK8/s320/Koonunga+Hill+Chardonnay.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5031351832359591266" />Vineyard: Pensfolds
Title: Koonunga Hill
Variety: Chardonnay
Vintage: 2003
Residence: South East Australia
Price: $9ish

The Look:
The bottle's label is a bit creatively challenged and those of us aesthetically wired might pass it by. However, once the wine was poured its pale golden (straw) color caught the light and danced around the glass.

The Aroma:
After the first deep sniff Koonunga Hill released a light sharp vapor, but then repeating with less intensity a fruity melon and apricot aroma was detected.

The Taste:
The wine was dry and the only major flavor I experience was grapefruit. It was also crisp, medium bodied and balanced.

The Drink:
This Pensfolds Chardonnay was one dimensional. Drinking it without letting linger in the mouth produced a flavored water type of affair.

The Overall:
***The statement in bold is the rating.***

'A wine perfect for those times when conversation is the focus not the wine.'

Entering the Third Estate of Winedom

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RdDrVpPN3VI/AAAAAAAAADw/kGTtwqaqt-4/s320/wi_expensive_3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5030779540852301138" />A couple days ago I decided to enter the world of the pretentious and begin evaluating wines on my blog. Bad decision? Probably, since I know nothing of this 'fine art' and am extremely non-opulent. However, the choice was chosen and I have already uncorked my first bottle.

Here is what I am planning to draw attention to in each wine.

1. The price.
2. The look.
3. The aroma.
4. The taste.
5. The drink.
6. The overall.

From what I understand wine is a very personal enjoyment and my tastes will differ greatly from yours. Hence, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you've tasted along with me or just want to call me out. My hope is to review 2 to 3 bottles a month since I am not interested in becoming something more than a taster. The company now allows a limited amount of subscribers, at no extra cost, to view some of their movies immediately online. Even though each subscriber is only allowed a certain amount of online viewing, I will no long have to annoy my wife with my expert ability to choose the best of Eastern Cinema (Kung-Fu to be exact).

The Bird Feeder

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RbkSikesWgI/AAAAAAAAABw/r_J-wN99eBQ/s320/birds.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024067244425763330" />I like birds....I better retract that statement.......I like all birds but ONE. However this Blog is not about the ONE I loathe but the song birds I love.

Since I was a child my family spent many morning sitting around our dining room table watching the birds come and go from our platform feeder. The variety was often impressive from the bright red of the male Cardinal to the snootiness of the Blue Jay. There were times when the Mourning Doves would arrive so thickly we would question the bird feeder's integrity. Yet the feeder would always hold and we would continue our wonder.

Now it wasn't all sitting around, drinking coffee and pondering. In the corner of the dining room resided a Bebe Gun and its job was to encourage the squirrels to stay away from the bird's food. Now we tried many methods to discourage these furry creatures, but they were relentless in their pursuit of the sunflower seed. It truly was their own demise to climb the metal pole and plop their wintery lard on the feeder. Our only desire for these creatures was to scare them away and we would only pump the gun once. Yet to our great surprise this would only discourage them for a day or two. These squirrels had little self-control.

Today I have a feeder and have never seen a squirrel climb upon its platform. What I have seen are Cardinals, Nuthatches, Chickadees, Titmouse, Blue Jays, Mourning Doves and many other feathered visitors. Watching the birds brings me great comfort and another chance to sit in awe of creation.

On January 8th

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RbbBhEesWfI/AAAAAAAAABk/dEtxv--QV-s/s200/l_22e1fc1f8a4a5408079130ec00c2acef.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5023415208260688370" />I am now a father.

His name is Mathis Jon and my wife and I are trying to savor every moment we get with him. It is my favorite way to fall asleep......please don't get me wrong, I like to read.

Last night I finished reading Ernest Hemingway's final piece of unfinished literature The Garden of Eden. The book revolves around the relationships of 3 individuals and how their lives become entangled then very twisted. Like all Hemingway books, his writing of dialogue and his ability to step deep into the minds of his characters makes this book a very quick read.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RZ5WyvDFuFI/AAAAAAAAABY/DEKFziOckpk/s320/gardenofeden.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5016542464560183378" />His subject matter was different from his other books I have read and threw me for quite a loop. I was unprepared for the non-graphic unpacking of the main characters' intimate relationships and their acts of manipulation. Also this book lacked what I enjoyed most about his other novels, Toreadors and war. In turn, it only highlighted a short fishing and hunting trip. In opinion, Hemingway's intent was simply to illustrate the complexities of human relationships.

The book was good. It was a side of Hemingway I had not grasped in his other novels. I am sure what came to the forefront in The Garden of Eden resides behind the bullfights and gun fodder of his others. I will read him differently.

The Wait

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RZvCjSyzlMI/AAAAAAAAABM/DbaxbLOnHAA/s200/hospital.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5015816521603323074" />On January 1st of this new year my wife was predicted to give birth. However, over the past month, numerous times I have been struck with how often we find ourselves becoming something we were not intended to become. In the film Winona Rider's character is admitted to a Psychiatric Ward for borderline depression issues revolving around suicide. As the movie progresses her character begins to adapt to the culture of the Ward, begins refusing her treatments and decides to live in a place where she does not belong.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RYAKEkytaxI/AAAAAAAAAAw/h4U42KB00Q0/s320/KPA59941.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5008013859348114194" />As a person who desires to seek God, I am confronted with my decisions to tread down paths towards something I am not. Many of these paths seem like logical choices but when looked at closely they are not Christ-Centered. The book of Ephesians speaks numerous times about who are once in Christ and how we are called to live. Yet God does not force us to live His way but gives us the opportunity to choose. It is my goal to not adapt myself to my 'Ward" but daily set out to "live a life worthy of the calling you have received".

Names from the Past

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RX1mQiSlGwI/AAAAAAAAAAk/BEn42_ji3jQ/s200/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5007270794974534402" />10 years ago I spent my second year of University at Covenant Bible College in Strathmore, Alberta. There I resided, studied and caused trouble with about 86 other students from numerous walks of life. For me, it was 9 months of spiritual formation which has pressed me into my present life.

The bonds which I formed during this year are quite curious. I have kept very fleeting contact with most of my fellow alum, but for some unexplainable reason they all hold a significant place in my person. Yesterday, through unexpected channels, I came across a blog where some of them have begun to check in and post. I couldn't read fast enough.

This post will mean little to most of you, but for those who come across it from CBC's Class of 1997 go here...

Snow on Thursday

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oNAUEJd5MPs/RXgaiiSlGvI/AAAAAAAAAAY/PATT7BOjbvY/s200/Jay+in+snow.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5005780166444915442" />Western New York is known for snow. The people who live here expect to get dumped on day in and day out December - February. However, it is not uncommon to get snow beginning in October and ending April. This is one of the reasons I live in Chautauqua County. I love snow. I love playing in it, shoveling it, manipulating it into snowmen and best of all dispersing it with my snowblower. By 8PM Tomorrow we are supposed to have accumulated 12 inches...God doth smile upon me.

So far it has been the perfect start to December. My only concern is looming in a few days is the cursed warm winds from the South. Please if any of you have the power please crush those winds with the icy breeze of the Canadian Plains.

And to everyone who disdains that which brings me great joy. Naturally the next question for most is 'What are you going to name him?' And even more naturally my response is 'I have no idea.'

This is not completely true and over the past 3 months we have been rolling names over in our heads. A name, in my opinion, is the most important label a parent can give a child. In many cases it seems to lead the child down a predestined path. Most likely the name itself is powerless, but what holds the power is the interpretation and presumptions of those speaking the name. This is what manipulates the named individual's destination. We have no control over other's opinions, so my wife and I are left to pick apart every name like a hot wing on Wednesday Night.

We have narrowed it down to 3 or 4 names, but have decided to wait until we see our boy's eyes before making the final decision. That way, in our minds, if we chose poorly we can place the blame elsewhere.

To Ask a Ninja or Not

Ever since the Wu-Tang Clan started promoting Kung-fu movies, martial arts crept to the top of my first choice movie list. The latest ones I've seen are 'Duel of the Tough', 'Chastity Kung-fu', 'The Kid with the Golden Arms' and 'The Invincible Armor'. Now understand these may not seem like films of cinematic genius, but they are hard-hitting, badly dubbed, confusing plot-lined gems. I love martial arts.

About 6 months ago I was introduced to something out of the Japanese line of the art. It knows nothing about the deeply religious discipline of the Shaolin Monks, but clothed in black and wielding shurikens it is the way of the ninja. Due to my great ignorance of this Asian art I was submerged with questions. Thankfully, as I searched the World Wide Web, I found answers. What I have now realizing is being a full-time student & worker might not be all I had fantasized it to be.

Yesterday during our round table introductions our professor asked us to pick an adjective which best describes us. The only one I could think of was 'Confused'. My undergraduate work was in Biblical & Theological Studies at North Park University and there I learned to read, critique and expand on theological thoughts. Now, I am finding myself sitting a table learning to evaluate students and actively figure out the best avenue for their education. It is quite the contrast.

I think the one aspect keeping me pressing on is I can now get a 10% discount at Arby's with my Student ID. Driving: 75 yards (2nd swing), Playing the ball off the fairway: 20 to 50 yards), Putting: I can sink em if they're less than a yard). It wasn't a big job but I'd been taking my time and decided the bathtub in our living room needed to end its 3 month stay. As I was ending the job I realized I had accumulated a fair amount of garbage which needed to make a journey to its 'Holy Land', the dump.

I began to load up my gas guzzler with all the random odds and ends one collects on their lawn; when you don't have to worry about what the neighbors might think. I found: 1 toilet, 1 sink, 2 rusty old bikes, 1 broken shovel, 1 computer, 1 aluminum ridge vent, 1 captive air tank, 1 old wheelbarrow and finally 1 wicked big roof mounting TV antenna. To my wife's delight the yard is now less cluttered.

This morning after 6 or 7 inches of new snow I made my way to the Holy Land. I pulled in and unloaded all the junk, metal in one bin and the rest in another. It was pretty awesome watching the toilet explode after I heaved it over the safety bar and it found the ground. During this unloading it kept snowing and was cold; so on completion I rushed into the little house to pay the man. My glasses fogged and I wasn't listening carefully when he told me the price. I repeated back to him $30? To my shock he replied $3.

Now I am grateful it was cheap, but wasn't that a little too cheap? Due to my own lack of discipline and tendency to lean towards media as my source of entertainment, it took me about 2.5 months to finish. Yet this is not a reflection on the quality of book, but on the reader.

As an individual who felt included in the cross-section of people he is writing about, I found myself remembering grade school through his critical eyes. Different aspects of my existence in those times began to make more sense. Yet, the book is geared to those involved in Youth Advocate professions and for most of us the book simply puts into words what we have been observing.

The book hinges on 4 factors. First, that adults believe life is different for youth but can't explain why, hence believe the fantasy little has changed. Second, that academics debate about what is different but little research has been done. Third, that the mission of organizations originally established to empower youth have lost their vision and are now systematically abandoning them. Finally, that youth are desperate for adult care, compassion, and most importantly rebuilding trust. By the way Hurt is written by a Christian man, but attempts to be as objective as possible and leaves out a faith response until the last 2 chapters.

In my opinion this book is a must read for those involved in Youth Advocate professions.

Tags: Book Promotion, Chap Clark, Book Review, Youth Ministry, Millenials

Nature Needs to Work With Us

On a day like today when the weather is above 50 degrees (Blast!!!) To begin I was sort of disappointed for 2 reason: the first being the only commercials aired during the 2 hour slot were for films, other TV programs and Burlington Coat Factory. Second the show just didn't live up to the hype. It felt like Seventh Heaven mets Desperate Housewives (both shows just so happen to give me the 'nails on chalkboard' feeling).

Now about the controversy. I was extremely relieved by the way Jesus was portrayed. I had read so much and mulled over it so completely that every expression, word, and gesture he created I unpacked. What I saw was a Jesus who was annoyed with the main character. He didn't seem supportive one bit but sarcastic and frustrated. I felt in no way did he support the addictions, sexual orientations, or corruptness of any of the characters.

What I did observe to be controversial was the portrayal of the Episcopalian clergy. If there is anyone who should be concerned it is they. I cringed during many moment where the church leaders abused alcohol (& drugs), took wavering stands on sexual issues, consulted with criminals, committed adultery and the list will grow I am sure.

Personally I did not like the show simply because it wasn't very engaging, the characters were...for lack of better words...blah, and it didn't seem believable. At this point I won't indulge myself in another episode, but I did decide to hop on the Conservative Right's bandwagon and continue my 28 year long ban of the Burlington Coat Factory.

Happy New Year

It was New Year's Eve and my wife and I had holed up for a nice long evening of movies and a countdown. The rundown of movies was Four Brothers, The 40 Year Old Virgin, and Crash. The first 2 films were okay, personally I had expected more from Four Brothers but was left confused. Fortunately all was redeemed by Crash.

In my opinion this is a must see movie. It provokes and shocks as the characters clash against each other from start to finish. Each individual portrayed reflects a deep dark part of us all where no one is safe from our racism, sexism, or corruption. Although vulgar throughout the acting, direction, and character development should rocket this film into contention for 'Best Picture' at the Academy Awards.

"It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. During this time I was bombarded by commercials, most of which I endure with a smirk and a chuckle. But all of a sudden my comatose TVonic state was disrupted by these words. "We wish you a Happy Holiday. We wish you a Happy Holiday. We wish you a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year". I was shocked. When had this 'New Living Translation' of this song been created?

On a Christian radio station this morning I heard 2 women in Iraq detonated bombs killing 27 in a police training facility. The following story was about a woman who is out to get Christmas back into our public language. Can you guess which story got more airtime and interviews?

I've been hearing a lot about the shift in language used around this Holiday season, but for the first time it began to cause a stir in me. However it was an odd stirring. I was not upset, annoyed or even frustrated. I was somewhat relieved. Now don't get me wrong, back in the day when I rocked a Bush/Quayle 88 T-shirt, I was quick to hop on the "Let's keep the 'Christ' in Xmas bandwagon. Yet today, I feel we are moving towards separating consumerism from faith.

My opinion is this. Christians have been blessed by many years of our holiday's getting the best spotlight. So much so that we now think it's our right to have our worldview broadcast to everyone else. Isn't it time to de-consumerize our most sacred of holidays with this change in language? Shouldn't we concerning ourselves with bigger issues than losing a phrase which not all of our public validates?

We all need to be a little less self-centered and think about the central aspects of faith and life. Personally I am looking forward to the day when I am greeted with a 'Merry Christmas' and my mind slips to Jesus first and Santa second.

A Calendar of Your Own

A friend of mine passed this site on along to me the other day.

Lulu

Here you can publish your own stuff. My mind was racing too fast and there were too many people I didn't know. After leaving the church and heading to the burial site the temperature dropped about 10 degrees. We gathered in a small graveyard while a yellow lab barked our trespass. It was here we sang. Joining together as a family full of joy and sadness we sang. 2 songs. The first spoke of the now and the second of tomorrow.

The sun disappeared out of sight, but the sunset stamped the promise of its return and I know someday I will see James Morrison Jr again.

Celebration in Sadness

My wife and I are on our way to Freeport, Maine to spend some time with my mother's family. Unfortunately the reason we are gathering together is for the funeral of my Grandfather. As I am sure all of us can agree death, for a person of faith is an odd experience. A balance of remorse and joy, holding on and letting go.

I have been asked to lead worship for the service and I am struggling with it deeply. Much of me feels as if I haven't fully grasp the fact of my Grandfather's passing and would like to sit and reflect. However, there is a part who desires to give. To be an encourager to those in attendance through worship.

The point is celebration of life and death. Rejoicing in how God can grow a life and invite this life back to Him.

Worship will be the perfect avenue.

Symbolically Brilliant

I watch a lot of movies. It is an easy way for me to lose myself in someone else's world for a few moments and return. Recently I spent some time in the land of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and not only was this film dryly hilarious, but it was an animated commentary about us and our world. I have never read the book, but have heard it is 2x as good (like usual) and plan to in the near future.

While I am on the subject of movies, I have been a member of netflix for over a year and if you are too I would love to link you as a friend. Eleven years later I find myself chomping on my words in more ways than one.

Dancing is a large part of who I am. I like to participate, observe, and comment on other's choice of styles. Living in Colorado I found myself frequenting a local dance hall called the Sundance Saloon. It was here, I walked unknowingly into a land of country love.

My wife, Elizabeth Rowe-Baehr and I finalized our relationship of 10 years with marriage in 2003. At our wedding reception we hired her brother's band to be the musical catalyst for the first 2.5 hours. Their band, Big Leg Emma, created an amazingly focused dance floor, that could not have been facilitated equally by another.

I apologize for writing back to back to back musical blogs, but I figured...I like music, why not. Check them out if you got time. They have a rocky Blue Grass sound so prepare your ears.

Aaron Espe, It Finally Happened

Some of you may know him but most of you probably have no idea who this kid is. It was my first introduction to the man who became the true voice of love, lose, and playing cards.

I am riding the fence of excitement and fear when it comes to James Mangold’s “Walk the Line”. I love movies and I love the way many are able to bring a new voice to an old story. That fact enthuses me about this film. However, the other side is a fear of Johnny Cash being transformed from the Man in Black to a Man on a Hollywood Star.

I am sure I will indulge myself in this film and more than likely I will be overly critical and walk away feeling as if I have been tricked by Hollywood. On the other hand, I am sensing it will give me a bigger picture of Mr. Cash and his life as a musician. I do hope they add a scene where Mr. Cash has a vision of Jesus and He better have blonde hair.

Guzzling Resources

About a month ago I drove my gas guzzling Chevy Silverado over to the LCD (Lake County Deli) for its bi-monthly fill-up. It had been riding the E for a couple days and I knew if it I didn’t fill it up now I would find myself stuck on some country road between a mean Black Lab and a meaner Australian Shepard, I decided to fill it up. As I effortlessly passed the $70 mark something inside of me snapped. Somewhere in deep inside my gut I began to get mad. I realized my life as a truck owner was going to have to come to an end sooner than I had anticipated if I didn’t do something. So I did what every good American citizen should do. I started complaining and pointing my crooked fingers at politicians, oil industry and the rest of the world.

Yesterday I had a revelation of sorts. It came after a conversation where I (still a truck owner) was being targeted as the source and solution of the high gas problem. My first reaction to this was even more anger and more crooked fingers, but as I began personally unpacking this one I realized I was at fault. My need as a gas consumer is a big problem. As I began to search deeper I started seeing all the other resources I consume and need for my cushy North American existence.

I have no right to complain. or leverage to push my frustrations about how my cost of living is increasing. When I think about these issues globally I see how fortunate I am and how my complaining enables me to ignore the real needs of those around me.

An Evening With Myspace.com

I caved. A friend of my recently told me about this profile/blog/meeting place site and how I should have bought stock in it a year ago. Needless to say I didn't buy stock, but I decided to help the shareholders by investing 30 minutes of my time to fill out a profile and sign up. I don't regret it, but there is something very uncomfortable about myspace.com. I feel as if I have just thrown myself into the wind and now am floating by thousands of people leering at my life. Or perhaps a better way to put it would be, it feels like I just stepped into a room with a thousand people trying to convince me I am like them and they are worth my time.

I think it's strange that as our culture gets less and less personal, people are desperately reaching out in as many ways as possible to be connected to like minded individuals. Our conversation led to a number of different issues about faith, music, and the industry. There was one odd theme I was struck with as I listened to his stories, producers.

You need them if you are going to cut a record, I understand this. But as a musician, when can you start saying no to their ideas and suggestions. For example, when this guy was signed one of the first things his "Christian" producer mentioned to him was he thought he should get into the weight room. Now we are not talking about a large guy or someone who looks out of shape, but someone of average physically health. Something just doesn't sit right with me thinking about this situation. I guess there is a business side to the Christian Music Industry, but if we were to boil it down shouldn't it still be a ministry.

As I think back to all the the Christian concerts I have been to over the years, there is one aspect that sums them all up. I wish I could say it was giving praise to God or empowering people to change the world through service, but unfortunately it was their polished image.

Is there hope for the Christian Music Industry?

Three Things

I’ve decided there are three things I really love. Other people’s dogs, other people’s pictures, and weddings.

Dogs. I met 2 today and both immediately smelled my circle and became my closest friend at that moment. They have the personality of, I will love you if you pay attention to me and responding to this is nearly a necessity. Pictures. In the past I have only looked at other people’s pictures in order to perhaps find myself in the background. But I am trying to change my song. Pictures help me create a context for those I come in contact with and enable me to see them in a complete light. Seeing the innocents of their childhood or the awkwardness of their tweenage years is refreshing.

Weddings. I am writing from one. One of my best friends Tyson Auffhammer is aligning his life with a girl who, from my observation, is the perfect combination of serious and light to match him. These past hours I’ve been meeting new people and reconnecting with others. We are becoming a homogeneous group. As very different individuals from different walks of life we’ve arrived in Cleveland, OH for a common goal, celebrating the union of these two people.

I’ve decided there are three things I really wish for myself. I affirm Jesus was without sin from birth to dead and in turn became the blood giver to reconcile us with God. Yet I am confused by the definition of sinless. As you might expect, I think of sin as what I am not doing. I am not lying to my wife, I am not robbing a bank, I am not kicking a dog, etc. However if Jesus’ life was summed up in a paragraph I highly doubt those highlights would speak of Jesus’ abstaining from the lures of a “fallen” world. It would be about what he did for those who were dealt a raw hand.

Jesus’ ministry was about doing what the Father business. He was so in tune with the Father’s desires Jesus had no time to let his humanness take control. I believe what made Jesus sinless was his commitment to be about the Father’s business at every moment. It didn’t revolve around what Jesus was abstaining from at all, but what he was proactively seeking.

I think on a good day I could be as moral (from N. American standards) as Jesus was. I think the majority of church-goers probably could too, but what good is abstaining from immoral lures when we aren’t about the Father’s business?
Buying Used Cars

is moral living relative? or is there a book, an enormous red book with gold letters stamped on the cover, that lines out every scenario one might amble up against? i am finding my life is becoming more unmoral by my childhood standards. as i grow i am becoming more a relativist, basing my actions on scripture, feelings, and the past.

there is a passage in 1 peter 2 which speaks of being careful how you live among your unbelieving neighbors. i am becoming more and more convinced when we are called to live carefully we can’t just live as moral examples. a postmodern mind will consider your lifestyle a wash since morals have become dismissible. if we aspire to reach our world we must live as socially minded people. so when our neighbors accuse us of wrong due to a slip up of one of our straight laced morals; they will see us in prisons, soup kitchens, setting up schools, adopting, empowering, crossing racial barriers, buying used cars, etc. and recognize we are trying to live as foreigners and give honor to God.
<img width='1' height='1' would not slip into place. the only answer was to go under the knife and have a thin slice of gum cut out; in order to attach a brace to which would pull the tooth from gum world into the exposed. there i was at my class picture in the midst of classmates with cute holey smiles and me metal face.

my intense dislike of teeth has continued and progressed to wishing they were all made out of titanium which would function as normal ivories do. it would solve the problem of getting home late and stopping by the bathroom to paste up and scrub away when all your physical type='text'>Cool and Clean

i think it takes a very patiently attentive person to clean a toilet. seriously, have you ever been so close to the porcelain god you can see all the nooks, crannies, and curves? down there it’s cool…calm…relaxing in a way.

part of my job is to clean. hence i have a love-hate relationship with a toilet brush. at first i always hate it but as the stained white (sometimes black) emerges into an uncontaminated bowl i embark on a daydream about sanitation. it only lasts a few moments, but in those fleeting chunks time i see a job well done.

at this point part of me thinks i should liken the above to god washing away my dinginess or how all of us should do humbling things to build our character. yet they seem too contrived. toilet cleaning should be an island on its own, an untouchable. so next time you clean your toilet relish in it.
<img the ipod i had purchased a few days for my wife’s birthday sinking to its death.

this past week i have found myself breaking/ruining my possessions on a regular basis. dings in a car, a hole in a wall, breaking my chain saw, and continual mower blade replacement. i’ve never been a klutz but as my 20s wane i am observing my ability to think ahead and sidestep these complications is dissipating.

i honestly thought i would make it until at least 50 before i began noticing the short comings of the mind. yet here i am barely an adult (in my type='text'>Up North

i ran away to the woods. it was my only solution to 15 years of organized education. i was 21, freshly shaven and seeking solitude. i felt strongly the will of god was an opened field with an occasional burning bush to shift navigation, needless to say i hadn’t seen a burning bush, so i left chicago and moved to grand marais, minnesota.

“seek and ye shall find”. i found my solitude. during a good week i could go 2 or 3 days without seeing anyone other than my roommate buster (alaskan husky). i was forced to live with myself during the 30 below nights and 0 degree days. i had to stare deep into my lusts, loves, and dinner creations with no one but god to unpack it with. i wish i could say i learned something like the deeps and wides of gods love, but i’d be giving a false face to this experience. however, looking back solitude took me out of my books and placed me next to a creator who earnestly desired to live with me.
Blogging

what does it take to blog well. i have a feeling this is what most of us consider as we begin to indulge ourselves with typing and posting. is there some unspoken way to write either scholarly or poetically or could a blog simply look like this:

I walked the dog. Her name is Rosie. We went to the pasture next
door and found a big pile of horse stuff. Rosie was interested in it I
was not. blah blah blah.

i could come up with stuff like that. rather i hope to be thoughtful and for me being thoughtful means thinking about writing all day. for example my job entitles me to a fair amount of walking. today as i walked i decided to think about my ***NEW*** blog and how to cleverly parallel life to the experience of a big spider i knocked off a light and squashed with my foot. at the end of the walk i was no farther along to blog stardom then when i started. no unparalleled parallels. no rousing words, no stimulating ideas, all i had was a pocket full of litter and an extra pen.

what does it take? the more i think about it the less i care. i must admit so far the words scattered across this screen have been very very humbling. so i've decided to just write. do it for yourself and enjoy it.
<img width='1' height='1'
